Smile SAN VICENTE 2015

 

 

The Comprehensive Health Plan was accomplished in four years with the efforts, cooperation and coordination not only of the residents of Barangay San Vicente but the entire Municipality of Mahayag. Its completion was guided by the general objective, attained through the implementation of the specific objectives, and directed with a goal of having a healthy, vibrant and inspiring San Vicente.

 

Strong commitment and teamwork of the medical students has served as the stronghold-base needed to achieve success in all endeavors set in this community health management.  Participation of the community residents have been the key in attaining the goals of the programs.

 

Since the establishment and implementation of the solid waste management program, residents had been practicing proper way of waste segregation. The segregation scheme devised which starts at household level has intensely improved not only the cleanliness of the barangay but organization of its surroundings as well. Promotion of compost pit utilization has been an important avenue in backing-up the maintenance of vermiculture in the area. 

 

In order to support the endorsement of good and proper nourishment of children, program on nutrition has adequately attained its goals of lowering the number of malnutrition cases in the area through ample supplementation of health teachings and promotion. The program advocated the consumption of nutritious foods, which can locally found in the backyard, has significantly strengthened food safety and security. On the process, nutrition can be effortlessly sustained. 

 

As far as the health and well being of residents is concerned, the program on hypertension served to prevent and control the disease through promotion of activities in proliferating one’s physical condition --- renovating individuals to pursue proper and good routines. This program, through education of proper diet and lifestyle had the intention of not only catering needs of persons with hypertension but the general population as well. 

 

At present, the newly renovated Barangay Health Station (BHS) accommodates the needs of residents not only in terms of basic health care but also health promotion and teachings as well. It is now fully equipped with health information materials, medical instruments and supplies needed for immunization, wound dressings, prenatal check-up and health education. The services of the BHS is manned by the core group on health fully equipped with knowledge on BP taking and monitoring, basic first aid, referral of hypertensive patients, and dispensing of available prescribed medications. 

 

Achieving a dengue-free barangay was a collaborative work which further maximized health advocacies on infectious diseases. Further, it improved cleaning habits of residents making them aware of their sanitation and hygiene. Not only it translated knowledge into practice, this program has developed sense of awareness and sensitivity towards epidemic diseases in our country.
